Mary Help of Christians
About our School
The school can accommodate 1 000 students in grades 1 to 6. The school offers a comprehensive curriculum enhanced with a wide range of extracurricular activities, including many sports and practical music programs.
Mary Help of Christians is an Independent Archdiocesan school situated in Paarl. We serve the communities of Paarl and Mbekweni.
The school was started in 1963 when the late Cardinal Owen McCann asked the Salesian Sisters to start a school in Paarl. For many years the Sisters served the school with immense commitment, but today we have no more sisters at the school.
For many years the community thought the school is a Salesian school, because of the presence of the Sisters.
The school goes from Grade R to Grade 7. Currently we have 625 learners and a staff of 19 educators and 5 support staff. We have English as medium of instruction and we take part in the Eisteddford and Sport Programme of the Paarl schools. We recently received funding from the Lotto and bought outfits for all our sport codes. We also put up two Netball Tracks. Our headboy has left for Germiston to take part in the Nationals of the Primary School Athletics.
We have an established, committed, passionate staff. We place a very high premium on Fundraising and our Grade 7 tour to the Southern and Eastern Cape is a highlight on our calendar.
We attend all events of the Catholic Schools Coordinating Council (CSCC) and we try to be 100% involved in all events of the Catholic Schools Network.
We face challenges like lack of a rugby field; computer centre; library and a bigger staffroom.
Our vision is to offer ourselves to our children.
Our school’s motto is ORA ET LABORA (Pray and Work).
